Mariska Hairgitay is best remembered for her role as Detective Olivia Benson in the television crime series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. I have to say that she was one of the sexiest cops on screen and the series happened to be among the more intense and hard hitting ones. Anyway since we are not looking at this Emmy Award winner’s histrionic capabilities, let’s skip this detail and move on to the East Hampton house that Mariska Hargitay and husband Peter Hermann bought this year.
With a property worth $9 million under her belt in a fancy location like the Hamptons, Hargitay is one happy lady right now. In a recent interview Hargitay declared her love for the Hamptons area. “”For me it’s my oasis,” she says, and that’s probably why she hopped from one Hamptons’ property to another so quickly. In fact, the new 11,000-square-foot estate is located just across town from her previous four-bedroom Hamptons’ residence.
Hargitay is no stranger to the New York real estate market. She has been doing quite a bit of buying and selling of prestigious and high priced properties. Way back in 2008, she listed her eight-room, 4,900 square feet Chelsea penthouse for $8.15 million. Considering that she’d bought the very same penthouse for $7 million just a year before, she walked away with a neat profit in her pocket. And before that, she had properties in the Tribeca and Murray Hill neighborhoods which again were unloaded onto the real estate market. I am thinking that by now she must have become quite an expert at the way the real estate business works.
The earlier property she had in the Hamptons was quite modest, especially when you compare it to the spread she’s acquired now. Of course, we are talking about a place like Hamptons where properties run into several thousand square feet and even a 2,500+ square foot house will seems to be dwarfed by those around it. How lucky for people who live here. They get to talk in terms of two or three storey-homes, almost a dozen bedrooms and twice as many bathrooms while we seem to get along in life with a single bedroom and bathroom accommodation!
Hargitay’s new acquisition is also a three storey property and it has 11 bedrooms, a pool house, a recording studio, a guest house, and sprawling lawns. But, the strangest item on the listing for me was the 6.6 bathrooms. I get the 6, but what in the big wide world is a “0.6” bathroom?
I guess it’s one of those things that are peculiar to the homes of the rich and famous!
