Although she has played a variety of roles in her term as an actress in Hollywood (and may I point out a highly successful one), Jodie Foster will always be remembered as Clarice Starling – the beautiful FBI trainee who became a psychopathic serial killer – Hannibal Lecter’s – object of interest.
It would surprise most people to know that Foster started her tryst with the entertainment industry when she was only three years old and modeled for a Coppertone, clad in nothing more than a diaper. What a cute sight that must have been. Her breakout role was in Taxi Driver – the 1976 film starring Robert DeNiro. The life-like portrayal of a pre-teen prostitute proved her talent in acting and shut up the sternest of film critics.
Her role as a rape victim in The Accused won her an Academy Award for Best Actress in 1989. A couple of years later, she had yet another Academy Award for her performance in Silence of the Lambs. Other popular movies done by her are Contact, Flight Plan, Inside Man, Maverick, The Brave One, Nim’s Island, and Nell, the last one having fetched her one more (well deserved) Academy Award.
The latest news about this powerhouse of impeccable performance is that she has listed one of her two Californian residences for $9,975,000. The property, located in one of the more prime locations of Beverly Hills was bought by her in 2005 for $8,100,000. It is spread over 5,484 square feet. However, the listing shows 7 bedrooms and 8 bathrooms and it’s a bit of a mystery how so many rooms have been squeezed into such little space.
The answer to that could probably lie in the acre of gated grounds that surround the property. It has enough space for a swimming pool, lighted tennis courts, and a spa. Some speculate that there may another 2-bedroom guest house on the grounds which would explain the bizarre number of rooms mentioned.
There are several people who are of the opinion that Foster’s residence is something in the nature of a fixer upper or teardown. However, sources close to the listing agency rubbish such claims. This 1949 built home has ivy covered walls and although it may require slight remodeling, it doesn’t require to be torn down.
The layout and design of the house is very interesting. The patio is lined with bricks and has an outdoor kitchen near the pool. The family room has pitched ceilings and a fireplace with intricate carvings on it. There is yet another fireplace in the house, this one being in the living room and made from stone. The wood-paneled library has a wet bar and can also double as a media room.
From the sound of it, Jodie Foster seems to be letting grow of a rather plum property. What has motivated this sale nobody knows and whether Foster’s stardom will command the full listed price for the house is anybody’s guess. Let’s wait and watch.
