The news on the celebrity real estate front as far as New York is concerned is that the drop-dead-beautiful actress Nicole Kidman and her guitar stringing, musical husband (who has a penchant for country music) Keith Urban have bought a house at an extremely high profile address in New York City.
The Australian beauty and her not-so-tall husband are known to have a whole string of luxurious properties in their name, that too all over the world. From the contemporary apartment in Beverly Hills where they have Cameron Diaz and Penelope Cruz for neighbors to the 10,925 square feet colossal residence in Nashville, it seems that the couple is on a feverish real estate purchase spree. Kidman-Urban even have a property in Sutton Forest, a swank neighborhood outside of Sydney. Get ready to let your jaw drop – this property is spread over 110 acres!! Man, what on earth do they do with so much land?
Their latest acquisition in New York City is located on the corner of 11th Avenue and West 24th Street and it is a recently constructed, awe-inspiring, steel and glass building. The credit for this glittering construction goes to the architect to be reckoned with – Annabelle Selldorf.
This wonderful lady has presented an equally wonderful solution to the parking woes New Yorkers face. 14 out of the 16 apartments in her contemporary styled building have a 300 square-foot private garage that has been aptly titled “En-Suite Sky Garage.” Drive your super expensive luxury car into the key-lock elevator, and watch it lifted to the same level on which you have your apartment! Modern magic, I call it!
The celebrity couple Kidman-Urban have paid big bucks to get their piece of the sky in Manhattan. The 3,248 square feet duplex unit was listed for $12,500,000 but thanks to the couple’s excellent negotiating skill and probably Kidman’s dazzling beauty got them a 20% reduction on the price. However, to me, even $10,000,000, sounds like a figure I’d be afraid to dream about in my deepest slumber!
Anyway, having spent this huge amount of money, the couple has undoubtedly landed a good deal. Three bedrooms, three bathrooms and a small powder room, a 20-foot by 22-foot living room, and (my favorite part) views over the Hudson River. In the space crunched 21st century only the rich and the famous seem to be able to afford so much space and such lovely views. Sigh!
