Ms. Renee “Bridget Jones” Zellweger is showing every indication of wanting to bid a fond adieu to New York and, if rumors are to be believed, spend more time with her friend Mr. Cooper on the West Coast. She has hoisted her pretty pair of apartments on Madison Avenue onto the New York real estate market. Where people have trouble buying a halfway decent property in New York, this Cold Mountain babe has two of them in a beautiful pre-war boutique townhouse. The asking price for both is $8,925,000.
The larger of the two properties measures about 3,750 square feet and has three bedrooms and three and a half bathrooms. It is currently listed at $6,975,000 with an additional $2,611 for monthly maintenance and common charge. This apartment was bought three years back for $5,400,000 and at that time it was a combination of three smaller apartments.
Located on the second floor, this apartment has 13-foot ceilings – a rarity in New York properties. The highlight of this property is the long solarium that gives you the luxury of looking out on the sights of Madison Avenue, even if they are somewhat loud and very busy. The entire apartment has original hardwood floors, while the living room is a cozy place, complete with a fireplace. Book lovers will love the library, even if it is a small one. The size of the kitchen leaves something to be desired since it is little more than the size of a walk-in closet, and it has an adjacent laundry room.
The second apartment was bought a year after the first purchase for $2,800,000. There were some rumors that Ms. Zellweger wished to combine this 1200+ square foot apartment with the larger one to make one big 5,000 square feet living space. However, that plan never materialized and this one bedroom and one bathroom apartment right next door remains an independent unit.
In spite of its size, the second apartment is more elegant in its proportions. It is listed at $1,950,000 with monthly maintenance and common charges of $1,100. The layout of the apartment includes a foyer of generous size an adequate sized kitchen and a boudoir with a fireplace flanked by built-in bookshelves, among other things.
The larger apartment has absolutely no furniture but the living room of the smaller one is furnished with an assortment of beautiful-to-behold things. The walls are putty colored and there are window frames and white dentil moldings. A red tufted sofa graces the room and matching it are a pair of tufted armchairs. In addition to the other bric-a-brac scattered around the room there is an impressive looking black baby grand piano and a pool table.
Should Ms. Zellweger be lucky enough to get full price offers on both apartments, she stands to make a considerable profit of $725,000, even minus the real estate fees. Let’s see if this chubby faced actress’ charm can work their magic and get someone to cough up full price for both properties.
